Coaching -

Finding the right coach can be your first challenge, but only if you have answers to these questions:

  • What do you want to be coached on?

Where do you feel the most pressure from – work/life?

What is it that you most want to change or transform in your life?

What would your world look like if everything was aligned exactly as you want it to be?

  • How do you want to be coached?

  •   Location
  •   Gender
  •    Previous experience
  •    Number of sessions (is a package of multiple sessions, or one-off coaching sessions)
  • Get to know the coach and check if there’s good chemistry.

  • Are you more concerned about your potential coach having credentials or life experiences? What matters the most?

  • Can the potential coach help you achieve your professional goals? How do they suggest you start?

  • Set clear goals for your coaching.  Be sure they are SMART goals.

  • If you’re not sure about their ability to help you achieve success, do some research and/or ask for references.  Good coaches will either have testimonials, reviews or a list of individuals willing to talk with you.  Remember, not everyone wants their need for a coach made public, some coaches have no reviews or testimonials because of privacy laws.

Good Coaches are in demand and won’t just take any client. They’re assessing you as you assess them. Here are a few of the things they’re looking for:

  • Commitment — There are many people who want to see change, but are not ready to do the work to bring that change into their lives. This is a moment to be very honest with yourself about how prepared you are to fully commit to yourself and your Coaching.
  • Focus — One thing that separates top performers from their peers is their ability to focus. Most people either cannot or do not sustain their concentration and energy on a process long enough to get the results they’re looking for. Those with sustained focus are far more likely to succeed.
  • Openness — If how you do things now would get you what you want, you wouldn’t need a Coach. A good Coach will be gauging how open you are to explore different ways of doing things. Of trying things that you’ve not been aware of or, in some cases, trying things that you may believe don’t work. The more open you are, the more likely you are to see the changes you are looking for.
  • Willingness to Change — You can’t change anything if you can’t change your mind. Your Coach is looking for signs that indicate that you are at a point in your life when things must change. If you’re not ready to change, you’re not reach for Coaching.
  • Be prepared to spend the necessary time to write your goals, hone in on your focus and be prepared to discuss the possible changes with staff and/or family. Work/Life balance is important and your willingness to create a path to that balance is key to your success.  It may not be what you thought your world would look like, but is it what it should look like?
